About the LilyDipper.com

Thanks for visiting!  My hope for this site is that it will encourage more people to get into a canoe and enjoy the beauty of Ontario's waterways.  For the experienced paddler, I hope that you will enjoy reading about different adventures, discover new routes and perhaps share some of your own experience.  For the novice, I hope that you will be encouraged to try canoeing and benefit from the experience of others.

Why "the Lily Dipper" you may ask?  "Lily Dipping" in literal terms refers to the act of using your paddle to play with lily pads as you drift by in a canoe instead of using the paddle for its intended purpose.  In my family, "Lily Dipper" has become an expression for someone who is doing anything but paddling.  It can be derogatory, but I like to think of it as the art of enjoying the moment; specifically in a canoe.

I have included several TIPS throughout this website.  You may not agree with all of them, but hopefully they will be useful to someone.

A special thanks to my brother Dan for his regular contributions.  "Uncle Travelling Dan" is a wealth of knowledge and a great uncle to my two kids.

Enjoy!
